Apple picking

Today we went apple picking for the 1st time. It was fun. We let the kids pick them. After I had a cider donut & Tara had a muffin. We'll be making apple crisp & apple sauce this week. My friend is suppose to send me an apple sauce recipe. I'll post it when I get it.

A group of friends and I get together and preserve oodles of jars of applesauce. We go to the orchard, buy the "seconds" apples, cut them into wedges {skins and all}, cook them in a wee bit of water- covered, then run them through a hand mill. We add about a quarter cup of sugar per batch {the apples are sweet enough}, fill the jars and process them for about 15 minutes. I don't add the cinnamon prior to processing because I like to add it fresh. :)

ps... aww, she looks like she had a fun time at the orchard!
