Wooly Bear Caterpillar

We Found these caterpillars in our yard yesterday. So many of them. Tara has found a few in the past few weeks & wants to keep them as pets. We end up letting them go by the end of the night. I posted this picture on Instagram & FB. 1 of my friends told me the name. So I googled them. This is the info that I found on them.

The woolly bear caterpillar—with its 13 distinct segments of black and reddish-brown—has the reputation of being able to forecast the coming winter weather.
According to legend, the wider that middle brown section is (i.e., the more brown segments there are), the milder the coming winter will be. Conversely, a narrow brown band is said to predict a harsh winter. Not sure if it is true, but it's kind of fun.

They turn into Isabella tiger moths. This is what they look like when they turn to moths.
