This happened to me yesterday

I was @ the park with my daughter yesterday & a few Moms & kids from our playgroup. Tara made her way over to the swings, so I was pushing her. There was a teenage girl on my left swinging & a teenage girl on my right pushing a toddler on a swing. Tara was on the middle swing. This woman/girl looked @ me & asked "Are you 1 of the babysitters"? I didn't really get what she was saying at 1st, so I said "What"? Then I realized that the teenage girls were babysitting the kids that they were with. She repeated herself & I said "No, I'm just here with my daughter". She said "Oh, cause you look so young". I was caught off guard & didn't say anything else to her. I kind of wish I had told her I was 40. She was way younger than me & she shouldn't disrespect her elders like that. haha. Let me explain. I turned 40 in June. Ever since I turned 21 I've been cursed to look younger than I am. It's something that has always bothered me. I know it should be a complement, but I've always took it as an insult. For years I got carded. After a while it just gets to be a pain & I always got really embarassed. I don't get carded as much as I use to, but people still don't believe that I'm 40. I think I look at least 30, which is fine with me. I honestly don't think I look under 21. I have crows feet/lines around my eyes now. I was so excited when those lines appeared. I thought I would finally look somewhat older. Not so much. If I'm not smiling or squinting you can't see the lines, so what good are they. So now I'm using wrinkle cream to get rid of them. Even my hair needs to be dyed & the white hairs don't help me look at least 30. I've had white hairs since I was 21, but didn't start dying my hair till I was 30. Do any of you have this problem & do you get insulted or take it as a complement? I always thought someday I would like being told that I look younger. It hasn't happened yet.

Kimberly, I've always been told that I look much younger also but that doesn't bother me, at least anymore. As I just turned 50, it's a great feeling that people think I'm so much younger. Enjoy it as it is all how you look at life :) Enjoy and take the compliments :D

I have a friend who has the same problem! I don't think I look old, and once in a while I will get carded (and I laugh!)....but I look at least 40 for sure!

Those teenagers would have DIED if you told them you were 40, but it would have given them hope for the future that they wouldn't look like their moms probably look!

Me, too! I'm 30- but look like a college kid-

I on the other hand don't mind it- I live in fear of wrinkles...

I know that they are inevitable but I just don't look forward to it, yet!

You look fabulous dawlin'- you'll be greatful one day!

OMG, had someone said that to me I would have hugged and kissed them to death :) I'll be 40 next year and no one cards me anymore and, granted, we live in the South where people say it all the time anyway, but all the young'uns call me "ma'am" and it makes me feel ancient.

I used to be told all the time that I looked 16. Then one day everyone started saying I look like I'm in my 30's. Ugh, I want to go back to being young looking again!

I've always looked younger than my age. I used to be mortified when I was 18 and people thought I was 14. I was terribly insulted when I was carded in my 20's. I think I was in my 30's when I stopped being insulted. Now I am 52 and I LOVE it when people don't believe my age!

I also started getting white hairs in my 20's. I started coloring it in my 30's and continued to do so for years. A couple of years ago, I stopped and am about 3/4 white now. The funny thing is that people think I look YOUNGER with white hair! I think the lightness around my face makes everything look brighter. Dark hair makes wrinkles more noticeable.

I say start enjoying it now!

Stopping by from SITS to say hi!

I look younger than I am. I don't look like a kid anymore, but people almost always think I'm younger...whether they meet me in person or from my profile pic online. I don't get insulted from it, but it can be a bit frustrating if I don't have my license on me if I'm out as well as when people think I can't relate because I just must be so much younger than them. But, I roll with it and know I'm going to appreciate it quite a bit in a handful more years! lol :>
