Accents

I don't know if I ever mentioned that I have an extremely strong Boston accent (with a faint Southern accent in there somewhere). Even when I try to talk without the Boston accent, people still think I have one. I now live in NH & I fit in here (most people that live here are from MA), but when I go away people notice it & sometimes can't understand me. I was watching the news today (a Boston channel) & I was laughing at 1 of the guys that was on there talking. I can notice it, but a lot of people who live here really don't. I'm already trying to teach my daughter to say "wicked". I want to pass the tradition of that word on. I'm just curious, what accents do you all have? Can you notice your accent & do you like it? What are your favorite accents? I love Southern accents (some of my best friends have Southern accents), Brittish, Scottish/Irish & Australian.

One of my best friends grew up in England, and I love her accent! She still can't lose it, even after so many years over here. Relatives of mine have Texas accents so thick that they are contagious, but mine is that typical California Dude accent, I guess!

I've always thought I have no accent. I'm a midwest girl, but sometimes people say I have one and I think no...it's you who has one!

When I first moved to North Dakota ten years ago from New Jersey, I had the strong Jersey accent, but after ten years my accent is now a mix of Jersey and midwest. My sister makes fun of me for it when I talk to her on the phone.

Growing up here in PA Dutch country... we have our own vernacular... not so much an accent- but definitely different!

For instance- have you ever had "dippy eggs" or "hamburgs"?
How about "shoe fly pie"?

We say "Lancaster" different then anywhere else... and lots of people "warsh" their clothes and have a fire place and a "chimley"...

:) I do love a Boston accent though- when on honeymoon in Boston... we got so lost- no one gave decent directions and we had no idea what a "carna" was until someone explained that it was a "street corner".... :)

Wooop! I'm English. Since moving here I get so many compliments on my accent. People stop me and say they could listen to me all day. I think though they'd be horrified if I did because I would soon resort to swearing like a sailor and boring everyone to death!
