Friday Favorites. 8.28.20

We made it to Friday. This week was long & rough. I never look forward to the weekends, but today I am to just rest. We have 3 appointments next week, possibly 4, so I need to rest up for those.

1. Mask-I got a mask yesterday that I ordered from Etsy. It's reversible. The other side is all black. It seems a little big. I only tried it on for a few minutes. I hope it isn't too big because I really like it.

2. Makeup. I got this lipgloss last week. Mostly because it's named Kimberly, like me. But it's really light. My natural lip color is mauve, so it's darker

3. Funnies.

This week has been really rough. So I don't have much to post. Have a nice weekend.

Nail Files. Week # 359

My 2 newest polishes that I got yesterday from Essie. Worth the Tassel (purple) & Garden Variety (green-blue). I've been trying to find Worth the Tassel & I've been wanting Garden Variety. I found both at Ulta. I love both colors.

Trouble with hair

I've always had wild crazy hair. My Mom used to call it a Rats nest. It was always curly/wavy frizzy & big. Over the years I had trouble getting it to grow. Finally, in my 20's, my hair was long & healthy. Then I had my daughter in 2007 & my hair stopped growing a few years after I had her. I was diagnosed with fibro in 2015. My hair has been falling out for quite a few years. I'm not balding, but when I shower there is a lot of hair on the bottom of the tub or if I brush or comb my hair there is lots of hair on there. When I do laundry there are always red hairballs stuck on the clothes, sheets & towels. I took different types of hair vitamins & none of them helped. I saw a new functional medicine doctor in January & she said that half of my pituitary gland was dead (it possibly died when I was giving birth). She referred me to see an endocrinologist. She said that she would probably give me hormone patches & that would maybe help my hair & nails grow. In the meantime, they let go of the whole functional medicine dept because of corona, so that doctor is gone. I waited 6 months to see the endocrinologist & she never got the mri results, so she really couldn't give me any new info. She wants me to have an mri every January. Right now I feel stuck. I don't go for my yearly check-up until November. I want to talk to my doctor about a lot of things & see if she can get the mri to that doctor. I do have long hair, but it is stuck at a certain length. The ends get so dry & brittle that they feel like brillo. I have my hair trimmed every 5 or 6 months. Only a half inch. My hair is to the middle of my back shorter than it has been in a long time. The top of my hair is really oily. Even right after I let my hair air dry or blow dry it. It looks wet, greasy & stringy. I did hear that moisturizing products can leave your hair limp & oily. I've also heard that even if you straighten your hair you should use curly hair products. I've always wanted healthy long hair to my butt. It seems like it is never going to happen. I don't care if I'm 50 I want my hair longer. So I will keep trying things, but right now I'm just trying to get used to my hair being oily & frizzy.

This was from August of 2010. It was pretty long then.

This is from last weekend. You can see how much shorter it looks.

Friday Favorites (8.14.2020)

We made it to Friday again. This week was pretty busy, so it went by pretty good.

1. Fashion. I got this shirt from Fairyseason.com. I really like it. It has slits on the side & it's loose-fitting.

2. Shirt. I got this shirt in Salem, MA last Saturday. I like it a lot. I grew up near Salem, but live in NH now.

3. Tie-dye kit. I just bought my 1st tie-dye kit. I've never tie-dyed anything. I also bought 2 white t-shirts.

4. School starts on September 9th here.

Nail Files. Week # 358

Sorry these look kind of messy. I did try to clean them up a bit. It's that white-out look. It just ends up looking messy in the beginning. This polish is La Colors color last-Evermore. I've been looking for a white polish that isn't sheer.

Yield
Serves 4 (serving size: 2 cups)
Combine 4 cups romaine lettuce with 2 tablespoons chopped red onion and bottled vinaigrette for a quick side.

How to Make It

Step 1
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken. Sauté 6 minutes, turning to brown all sides. Remove chicken from pan; keep warm.
Step 2
Bring 8 cups water to a boil in a large saucepan. Add orzo; cook 8 minutes or until orzo is al dente. Drain in a colander over a bowl, reserving 1/4 cup cooking liquid.
Step 3
Add reserved cooking liquid, chopped tomato, tomato paste, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and peppers to skillet; cook over medium-high heat for 2 minutes. Add chicken, pasta, and 3 cups spinach leaves, stirring until spinach wilts. Remove from heat; sprinkle with cheese.
Note: I added a little bit of water & olive oil. It was a bit dry, so I added that before I put it in the bowl.
