Aloha Friday

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you'd like to participate with your own question on your own blog, head on over to An Island Life to link up and join the fun! http://islandlife808.com

If you're married, do you still have your bouquet?

I still have mine, but it doesn't look so good. We got married in Bermuda & I didn't get to preserve it.

Now.

Then.

Harvest Moon

My husband took these pics last night after I went to bed.

I found this article on the Harvest moon.
What makes the harvest moon so special? Mainly it's the path it's following this week. The moon always travels close to the ecliptic, the path of the sun and planets in the sky, but this week the ecliptic is at a particularly shallow angle to the horizon. The result is that the moon never gets too far above the horizon all night long for a number of nights in a row, putting it literally “in your face.” There is a well known but poorly understood optical illusion known as the “moon illusion,” whereby the moon, when low in the sky, appears much larger than it does when high overhead. This really is an illusion, as you can see for yourself by blocking the moon with a finger held at arm's length: the moon is no bigger on the horizon than overhead. When the moon is low in the sky, it is also strongly subject to appearing yellow, orange, or red due to air pollution, particularly caused by forest fires this time of year.

Tired

We've been trying to get T to sleep in her big girl bed. It's not going so well. It all started on Thursday night. She woke up around 2am crying & having a fit. I put her light on & she had climbed out of the crib & was sitting on the floor shaking. We calmed her down, put her back in the crib & she ended up climbing out again. So that night she slept in the bed with us. Only the 2nd time ever that we've done that. She didn't sleep @ 1st, but finally ended up snoring. She won't sleep in the bed & think it's going to be a while. We're all very tired & cranky. She fell asleep on the floor a few times. Any suggestions for making things go more smoothly? I'm dreading bedtime. I don't think she'll be taking any naps anymore either.

Apple crisp

I made this today. My 1st apple crisp ever. It tasted better than it looks. haha. My only complaint was it needed more topping. The topping was the best part, but there just wasn't enough.

Apple crisp (courtesy of Rachael Ray's website. her sister bakes)

Ingredients
6 McIntosh apples, peeled and diced into 1/2-inch pieces
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground or freshly grated nutmeg
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 cup flour or fine graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 stick butter
1 pint vanilla ice cream

Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a 9 by 12 baking dish, combine apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar. In a small bowl, mix flour or graham cracker crumbs, brown sugar and butter together using the tines of a fork and your fingers, working until even, small crumbles form. Sprinkle topping evenly over apples and bake 15 to 20 minutes until apples are just tender and topping is golden brown. Top dishes of apple crisp with small scoops of vanilla ice cream. YUM!
